How do I solve the case?

Our cases have been created to be as realistic as possible, giving you a real taste of what being a detective is like. The cases come with lots of documents and evidence; you'll need to inspect them all, pick out key bits of evidence and start to put together the story. The cases include fun online elements, which means you will need access to the internet. The cases also have 'mini tasks' that are inspired by our love for escape rooms. They are incorporated into the game realistically and play an important part of the story. Once you have all the information, you can start to figure out who the suspects are, what their motives are and check their alibis.

Each cold case has some slight variations. However, the main objective is to inspect the documentation and evidence to establish a good understanding of the case at hand. Once you begin to eliminate people from your suspect list, you can then decide who the killer is.

How many people can play?

We personally recommend a group of 4 is best. However, there are technically no limits. Prior to release, the games are tested with individuals as well as groups of up to 7 players. We have many couples playing together as well as larger groups and they leave amazing reviews. Not only is there online evidence to work through, but there is also a large number of physical items to inspect, so there is plenty of work to be done.

How long does it take to solve a case?

This answer really depends on the detective(s) solving the case and their experience with escape rooms and similar products. We find on average it takes 4 people to solve our cold cases within 2 hours.

This information is based on product testing and customer feedback. Please remember this time period can vary.

What do I do if I get stuck solving a case?

If you find yourself stuck and need a clue, click the 'help' button once logged into the digital evidence database for your chosen case. Access to the database is explained within your pack.

What is the recommended minimum age for the cold cases?

Accepted Answer

We have set the recommended age for our cold cases at 14+. That is simply due to the fact that someone has been murdered and some may deem that not suitable for younger audiences. The games do refer to other crimes such as drugs, bribery and other mentions of criminal activity. However, the games do not include any explicit language or graphic images at all, so it is down to your own discretion whether you think these games are suitable for the people you're planning to solve the case with.
There are some 'escape room style' tasks that need to be solved and there are clues included if you get stuck. The tasks have been tested and solved by many people including young teenagers.

Do I need the internet to solve a cold case?

The user must have access to a PC/laptop or Smartphone. We recommend using a PC or laptop for a better viewing experience.

When do I get my login details for the online aspects of the case?

Accepted Answer

Paperwork within your case will explain how to gain access to the online evidence and digital database. Login details are not sent separately.

Question 8

Will my login details for the case expire?

Accepted Answer

No. Your login details for the case you purchase will not expire. This means you can order your Christmas or birthday gifts well in advance and not have to worry :)

Why does my login information not work for the digital evidence database?

Please double check you are entering these details correctly (they are case sensitive). On the rare occasion you are still having difficulties, please contact us.

I'm buying this as a gift. Do your products come in discreet packaging?

Accepted Answer

The packaging has no signs of our company name or the products within. There are no receipts or packaging slips within the main envelope. We made these decisions to save on wasted printing as well as the fact that a lot of our customers send these products as gifts.

Can I get your cold cases as a digital download to print at home?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, it is not possible to have our cold cases available as a digital download. This is due to the fact that many items in these cases are prepared by hand in order to play the role in the murder that they are intended for. These help with the story line and overall feel of the experience that we want our detectives to have.
